Celebrate National Cotton Candy Day December 7 2010

Always fluffy, Cotton Candy is a favorite among kids and adults

Don't worry, it came as a surprise also to me, I mean I know Cotton candy is delicious, but to have not one, but two national days in it's honor? yes, I said two, one of the days is December 7 and the other one is in the middle of the summer on July 30.
Cotton Candy Day is an "unofficial" Holiday only celebrated in the United States

Cotton Candy has a long history, it goes all the way back to the 1700 an it was first called "Fairy Floss" the name came from the floss sugar that was used to manufacture them, back then, Spun Sugar was very expensive and not easy to find, it was not until the beginning of the 1900 that Cotton Candy became to be not only popular but an icon at fairs, trades and Carnivals, and we owe this to two young inventors; William Morrison and John C. Wharton, who in 1898 invented the Cotton Candy Machine and patented it a couple of years later, and in 1904 they brought their brand new contraption to the St. Louis World Fair where they sold more than 60,000 boxes of Cotton Candy at a whopping $0.25, the cost of admission to the whole fair was $0.50 just to put it in perspective.

The only ingredients in Cotton Candy is Sugar and artificial color and contrary to what you may think, an average serving of Cotton Candy uses only about an ounce of sugar and contains roughly 100 calories which is far less than most common sodas and packaged candies.

So now you have another excuse to celebrate on December, the 7th to be precise, gather your friends, family or even neighbors and rent a Cotton Candy Machine (which by the way are fairly inexpensive to rent) and celebrate together the magic of a tasty treat that not only tastes good and dissolves in your mouth but is capable of turning us back into kids with every single bite.
